On Tuesday, May 10, 2023, Ohio State House Republicans approved a special election in August that would cost $20 million that, if the majority of voters – 50% + 1 – approve, would raise the ballot referendum passing threshold from a simple 50% +1 majority to a 60% +1 supermajority. This supermajority threshold will effectively give the minority of voters more of a say over the majority of Ohio voters.

Opponents of ‘The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety’ proposed constitutional amendment are using nothing more than scare tactics, stretching the truth and outright lies about what a court may likely do in tv ads. Law professors reviewed the claims made in the ads aired by opponents and agreed parental consent would not be eliminated.

Volunteers now have petitions! Despite what the GOP ad says – The proposed amendment language has nothing to do with gender reassignment surgery. Every registered Ohioan should have the right to vote yes or no on this issue by placing it on the November 2023 General Election ballot. Every individual has a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to decisions on: contraception; fertility treatment; continuing one’s own pregnancy; miscarriage care; and abortion.
