Middle Class Ohioans Will Likely See a Tax Increase Under This Plan
Today, Governor Kasich’s statehouse allies introduced their new tax plan to increase Ohio’s sales tax, lowering the commercial activities tax exemption and eliminating the property tax roll back on new levies that benefits Ohio’s homeowners, thereby increasing taxes on homeowners in order to benefit the wealthiest Ohioans with an income tax cut.
Today, Ohio House Republicans introduced a bill placing new restrictions on women seeking abortions, requiring doctors to do ultrasounds, describe physical features of the fetus, make an image and sound of the heartbeat available to the woman, requiring the doctor to discuss whether the fetus can feel pain, among other new and extreme restrictions. In response, candidate for governor, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald released the following statement:
FitzGerald Says Wage Inequality Affects Ohio Families
Today, Monday, June 10, 2013 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1963. At that time, women earned only 59 cents on the dollar compared to men. Today, the national average shows women making around 81 cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts, and only 77 cents on the dollar in Ohio. In response, candidate for governor and Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald released the following statement:

Ed FitzGerald can’t help but laugh as he looks forward to this month’s ribbon-cutting for Cleveland’s new convention center. FitzGerald, the county executive of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, is proud that the $465 million project is opening on time and under budget, but he recalls that not long ago people harbored serious doubts about it. “How about that guy shouting out at the groundbreaking that this would never open?” FitzGerald says. “What took nerve was that he was working on the project.”

After a bill that would eliminate any audit or sliver of accountability and transparency of JobsOhio, Governor Kasich’s privatized economic development agency, was rushed through the Legislature one day ago; it is expected to reach the governor’s desk for signature today.
