Senator Tim Kaine is Hillary’s running mate

July 22, 2016

We are pleased to announce Hillary’s running mate, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia. Tim is a lifelong progressive, someone who has a two decade long history of putting families first and getting it done.  Also? One of the most qualified vice presidential candidates in our nation’s history.

Tim has never taken a job for the glory or the title. He’s just motivated by the idea that you can make a real difference in people’s life through public service.  There is a major progressive case to be made for him, and you’ll hear a lot more about it in the coming days.

Tim Kaine By the Numbers
●      96% rating from the NAACP (2014)
●      100% rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (2013-2014)
●      100% Lifetime record rating from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (2016)
●      100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America (2012-2015)
●      100% rating on AFL-CIO’s 2014 Senate Scorecard, and a 96% Lifetime score
●      Scored an “A” rating from on the National Education Association’s 2015 Congressional Report Card
●      100% rating from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (2013-2014)
●      Scored an “F” rating from the NRA and Gun Owners of America (2012)
Tim’s a civil rights attorney who took on housing discrimination and redlining — winning the largest settlement in the country ($100m) for a woman denied a house because she was black.

He took on the NRA in its own back-yard after the Virginia Tech shooting: Meet the Democrat Who Is Challenging Conventional Wisdom on the NRA’s Power,

He’s anti-Keystone (Why Keystone Should Be Stopped), pro-early and higher education, with a 100% Planned Parenthood rating.

Here’s Krystal Ball’s take on the progressive case for Tim Kaine,

And Mother Jones outlining his “history of quiet progressive activism,”

RT any of your favorite heroes talking Tim (below!), or any of articles above, or share your own thoughts with #StrongerTogether.

  • Elle Marie, @ElleMarie5
I will say again, Tim Kaine was a genuine advocate for black law students at Richmond Law. Just on the strength of that, he has my vote.
  • Madeleine Albright, @madeleine
.@timkaine is a man of strong values, deep intellect & much experience. As VP, he will be a great governing partner. #ClintonKaine2016
  • Ilyse Hogue, @ilyseh
Clinton-Kaine 2016 has a melodious ring to it. More West Wing theme. Less Apolocalypse Now that Trump-Pence 2016 screams. #ImWithHer
  • Cecile Richards, @CecileRichards
.@HillaryClinton’s VP pick @TimKaine earned a 100% rating on the Planned Parenthood Action Fund scorecard in the Senate.
  • Siva Vaidhyanathan, @sivavaid
Keep hearing Kaine is “safe” and “not courageous.” Here in Virginia he won statewide opposing the NRA, coal, and the death penalty.
  • Ari Berman, @AriBerman
Tim Kaine was fighting housing discrimination as a civil rights lawyer in VA while Trump was refusing to rent to African-Americans in NYC
  • Philip Rucker, @PhilipRucker
Bet we’ll see Kaine’s leadership after ’07 Va Tech shootings to be spotlighted at convention. He was pushing gun control before it was cool.
  • Jason Cherkis, @jasoncherkis
Kaine’s work as a civil rights attorney on housing discrimination offers a contrast to Trump being sued by DOJ for housing discrimination
  • Judd Legum, @JuddLegum
Underrated: Tim Kaine standing up to the tobacco lobby and the gun lobby as governor of a southern state
  • Alec MacGillis, @AlecMacGillis
Kaine was the person who showed NRA could be beaten–even in its home state. Has had an F-rating from it for years, yet won race after race.
