Primary Election Day is May 6, and early voting is already occurring. I wanted to take a moment to point out a very important Issue on the ballot that will help put local building and construction trades members to work.

The Ohio AFL-CIO has endorsed State Issue 1. Issue 1 is a renewal of state Public Works Bond and one that the federation endorsed as a renewal in 1995 and 2005. If passed, Issue 1 will provide thousands of construction and related jobs over the next decade, many of those good, middle-class union jobs.  This bond renewal will not only create needed jobs, but will stimulate the state and local economy.

 

By ensuring our state has the infrastructure to support businesses and a good quality of life, we are able to attract additional businesses – meaning even more jobs for Ohioans. Issue 1 will fund the renewal and expansion of Ohio’s critical local government road, bridge and infrastructure building program, which Ohio voters first approved nearly 30 years ago. Issue 1 will extend this critical, proven program for 10 more years.

 

Whether voting early or in person on May 6, I encourage you to vote YES to approve Issue 1, the renewal of the State Capital Improvements Program which has helped local communities all over Ohio complete road, bridge, sewer and other infrastructure projects over the last 27 years.
