Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez will be choosing among Houston, Miami and Milwaukee as the host city for the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The convention is scheduled for July 13-16, 2020. For the past several weeks, Democrats have quietly suggested Milwaukee is the leading contender. In December, the DNC committee paid last visits to each city before a decision will be made which is expected by the end of February 2019.

Site selection

Bids on the site for the convention were solicited in late 2017 and made public in the spring of 2018. Las Vegas, Nevada later withdrew and decided to focus on the 2020 Republican National Convention, for which their bid was subsequently defeated by Charlotte, North Carolina.

On June 20, 2018, the Democratic National Committee announced four finalists for the convention site.

Finalists

  • Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado – NOTE: Bid withdrawn after finalist selectionIAH - Host City - Logo
  • Toyota Center, Houston, Texas
  • American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida (with some MIA 2020 - Logomeetings at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Beach, Florida)
  • Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

With the exception of Milwaukee, each of the finalist cities have hosted a past Democratic convention. Denver hosted in both 1908 and 2008. Houston hosted in 1928. MiaMKE - Host City - Logomi hosted in 1972. In addition, both Houston and Miami have also previously hosted Republican National Conventions, with Houston hosting it once in 1992 and Miami having hosted both the 1968 and 1972.

Other bids

  • Atlanta, Georgia – NOTE: Atlanta had previously hosted the 1988 convention
  • Birmingham, Alabama
  • Las Vegas, Nevada – NOTE: Bid withdrawn in order to focus on bid for 2020 RNC
