Hope you’re surviving this never ending winter; that groundhog wasn’t very helpful!
We’ve had some great enthusiasm across Ohio with candidates filing in all Ohio’s legislative districts and across the state for county offices. I’m encouraged and hopeful that we’re on the right track to turn Ohio deep blue again in November.
To that end, our next ODCCA/ODP regional Town Hall will be hosted by Union County in Marysville on Sunday, Feb. 25th. We’re excited to announce that 4 of our candidates for Governor, 2 down ballot candidates and the two supreme court candidates have confirmed to attend. It should be a lively and enlightening discussion and we hope you’ll help publicize the town hall and urge your voters to attend. There will be a possibility of 2 more town halls before the May primary so this is a unique opportunity to hear these candidates, many for the first time, in a free venue. We’ll announce as we get more confirmations; right now we have Joe Schiavone, Richard Cordray, Bill O’Neill and Dennis Kucinich confirmed as well as Zach Space and Kathleen Clyde. This is a true town hall format with audience participation. It’s worth the drive to Marysville so get together and car pool over! Flyer is posted on ODCCA website, so please post to your websites and social media pages. RSVP now as space is limited! Thanks!
If your region is interested in a town hall in March or April, contact me now to get it set up. The candidates’ schedules change daily so setting the date and location early is imperative.
ODP county party assessments have been sent out (the same amounts as last 2 years) and we hope you’ll send yours in early to help support ODP’s efforts with Main Street and to host these town halls and debates. Failing to win in 2018 isn’t an option so once again ODCCA will produce a banner for your county with the statewide candidates. Sherrod Brown, candidates for Governor, Lt. Gov, Sec’y of State, Auditor, Treasurer, Attorney General and our 2 Supreme Court candidates would be featured. Because there’s so much interest in the congressional races and in the Ohio legislative races, ODCCA is considering an optional 2nd banner with your congressional candidate as well as your Ohio house and senate candidates. Perhaps your local county candidates if there’s only a few. Before we expend too much effort on this endeavor, we’d like your thoughts on what you’d like to see and if a second banner would be of interest. There’d probably be a small charge for the 2nd banner depending on pricing we receive from the vendors. Send me or Amy or your regional liaison an email with your thoughts. And pay your ODCCA dues so you can receive your 2018 banner!
In case you missed our ODCCA winter meeting, here’s a short summary. SOS candidate Kathleen Clyde met with board of elections members and staff prior to our meeting regarding election issues, equipment and her platform for the SOS office. Executive Committee members were introduced and sworn in, Rich Cordray and Betty Sutton addressed the group, ODP Chairman Pepper and staff spoke about candidates, assessments and Main Street trainings. ODCCA voted to approve the ODP assessments as requested by ODP. Treasurer’s report was approved and annual audit was conducted. We adjourned to Barley’s Brewery for the ODCCA/ODP Reception for the BoE staff and members. It was very well attended and an excellent time was had by all!
